Sally England is an artist that primarily works with fibers and textiles. Originally from Michigan, Sally is working towards her MFA as a candidate in the joint Applied Craft and Design program offered by Pacific Northwest College of Art and Oregon College of Art and Craft here in Portland. She describes her work as "exposing the hidden potential of familiar household objects, while challenging the strict boundaries between art, craft, and design." Inspired by the crafting craze of the 1960's, she has recently been exploring the possibilities of macrame, especially when brought to a larger scale. Her belief is that craft can be an antidote to our newly found shrinking attention spans and obsessions with technology, and that it can calm and enlighten in a way that almost nothing else can. She recently displayed her beautiful wall-size macrame at local boutique, GoldenRule and is working on more pieces that reference the history of craft as well as the current obsessions of mass culture.
